Welcome

St. Mary School provides all students a quality, Catholic education rooted in faith, dedicated to academic excellence, and committed to service.

Welcome to St. Mary School

St. Mary School opened in September 1950 in Escondido, CA, serving grades 1-6, and was staffed by Sisters of the Precious Blood. Bishop Charles Francis Buddy dedicated the school to Mary, Mother of God, in March 1951. The school expanded gradually, adding grades through 8th by 1953 and increasing facilities over the years to accommodate growth.

Administration transitioned from the Sisters of the Precious Blood in 1972 to lay leaders, with the charism of Mary and the Sisters remaining central to the school’s identity through traditions like May Crowning and rosaries that honor Mary. Kindergarten was added in 1987, and preschool in 2001.

Faith. Excellence. Service.

Rooted in the Catholic faith, St. Mary School partners with parents to provide a nurturing environment where academic excellence, character formation, and service come together. Working together as a faith-filled community, families and educators help students grow academically, spiritually, and personally.

Dedicated teachers inspire a love of learning while helping students grow in knowledge, confidence, compassion, and love for Christ and neighbor. Through rigorous academics, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to lead and serve, students are prepared for success in high school and beyond while developing a lifelong relationship with Christ.

More than a school, St. Mary School is a faith-filled community where every child is valued, encouraged to discover their God-given gifts, and empowered to use those gifts in service to others. Together, faculty, families, and clergy work to form students who are rooted in faith, committed to excellence, and prepared to make a positive difference in the world.
