Some Website Updates

Hi Everybody!

I certainly hope everyone is having a wonderful Easter spring break.

I thought I would give everyone an update of all the small things that are happening on the St Mary School website and media. Most changes are minor, however I think that if I don’t point them out they may be left unnoticed.

New Picture Banners
In case you missed it, we have updated our banner slides with new pictures in the front page. We will try to update these more frequently to keep the website looking fresh.

Why We Love St. Mary School – Video
Located on the front page is the new school video, “Why We Love St. Mary School.” This video was shown at the school Gala back in February. It is a heartfelt, unscripted and unrehearsed video of some of our students expressing what they love about our school. So check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.

Under the Wings of Angels – Video
This video was also shown at the school Gala and during the teachers appreciation day before that. It is a poem in video form, created to show our gratitude to all our hard working teachers and staff. The poem is recited by one of our students. You can see this video under the Announcement Section on the front page.

St. Mary School YouTube Channel
The school now has a YouTube channel. Though there aren’t much videos on there yet, we will be posting some soon. So head on over HERE and subscribe if you wish to be notified if we upload new videos. And don’t forget to like the St Mary School Facebook page for more updates on videos, pictures and other media as well.

Leave of Absence / Attendance Link
Children who missed class or will be missing class are required to send an email to the school for notification, security and records. We’ve added a button link in the Parent’s Hub to access the attendance email a little easier. You may also email to send your child’s leave of absence or attendance email.

These are all the website and media updates we can share for now. More updates are planned and we will sure be sending out another notification once they arrive.

Many thanks for your investment, support and dedication to our school. We deeply appreciate everything you have given us. Have a safe, wonderful and blessed break.

Kind regards and Blessings,

SMSE Webmaster

Special Day

More exciting changes are happening under the hood of the SMS website. Reader may not be able to see much changes, but I hope the teachers have a more easier time with the changes.

For example this sentence would have been hard to write with the old editor. 🙂

St. Mary School’s New Website

Hello St. Mary School families.

We are proud to announce the launch of the the new St. Mary School website. On the new website you will find a more robust, mobile-friendly and modern design. A lot of the pages have been consolidated to reduce the clicks needed to get from one place to another. Like the “Parents” page located on the upper right.

New features have been added in the core to make updates more appealing and efficient. We also have a new Alumni Page, which we would like to invite everyone who have attended St. Mary School to register and be in the loop for future alumni events and information.

Just like the school, the St. Mary School website will only get better and better as the year progresses. We will add more features, continuously update you with relevant information, upload new medias and implement new web standards to make your browsing more enjoyable.

The website has been optimized to run on modern browsers. It has also been designed for mobile phones and tablets in mind.

We welcome all ideas, comments, suggestions and of course errors that you may find. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at: .

Our deepest gratitude to you for choosing St. Mary School.

Kind Regards,
Mr. Adriano

Website Maintenance

The St. Mary School website will be under maintenance on the weekends starting this Saturday (08-08-2015). Website updates will be ongoing up to the beginning of the school year. I will however keep the maintenance and downtime to a minimum by working on it on weekends and at weeknights. So pardon the interruptions and the inconvenience, as we prepare for the upcoming school year.

Thank you so very much and have a wonderful day.

St. Mary School New Calendar Tips

Hi again everyone,

First, my apologies for any inconvenience the calendar crash may have caused you. I was something none of us could have predicted and avoided. However, now that we have a new calendar, hopefully everything goes well from here.

I would like to go over some features of the new calendar with everyone. Just some tips and tricks to make your calendar navigation easier and faster.

So let’s start with the mini calendar widget on the front page.

Mini Calendar

The event list from the old calendar has now been replaced with a mini calendar preview. The current day is highlighted with a green background. Normal weekdays have a very light gray background while weekends have a mid-tone gray background. Days with events have a dark gray background and a blue number on it. If you click on the calendar name, ST. MARY SCHOOL EVENTS CALENDAR it will take you to the school’s main calendar.

Mini Dropdown

Clicking on days that have events will give you a small window describing the event. Some events will have descriptions about it and some do not, however all should have the title of the event as well as the date and time if applicable. If there are more than one event for that day, the mini calendar will give you multiple windows right on top of each other so you can see all the events for that day. Clicking on the “more” link inside the small window will take you to that specific event’s page. Clicking on the red “X” will close all the small event windows.

Mini Jump

To navigate to a different month in the mini calendar, click on the month drop-down menu, click on the desired month you wish to navigate to and then click the “Go” button. this can also be used to navigate through the years.

The tips above should get you up and running on doing a quick check on the calendar without going into the main calendar page. For the main calendar page, you can follow along here.

Please note that the main calendar does not fit on cellphone screens properly at this time. If you’re having a hard time viewing the main calendar on your mobile device, click on the “List” button on the top left (in-between the navigation buttons and the month drop-down button).

Main Calendar

On the top of the calendar, you can navigate just as you would with the mini calendar. You can also use the next and previous arrows on the upper left to jump to the next or previous month. The main calendar has a similar color scheme with the mini calendar except each events are categorized in different colors. The corresponding event colors are blues are activities, greens are notable schedules or schedule changes, reds are no classes (vacations and/or holidays), purples are meetings and yellows are special events.

Week View
Clicking on the “Week” button on the top bar gives you a “Week View.”
Clicking on the “Day” button on the top bar gives you a “Day View.”

I’m still looking for an easier navigation between days and weeks on both the Day and Week View. For now you can only navigate using the next and previous button. Hopefully there’s a way to change this soon.

Main Drop-down

Similar to the mini calendar slicking on the event title will open up a window containing the description of the event. However, as stated, not all events have descriptions on them. Clicking on the “More” link inside the window will take you to that event’s page. Clicking the red “X” icon closes the description window. Be sure to check certain events, as some of them have exact time starts and ends.

Hopefully everyone will have an easier time navigating around the new St. Mary School calendar. There may be new features coming in the future, but this is all I can share for now. Event schedules are managed by the school so I may not be able to answer questions about those, but feel free to contact me with any concerns or comments about the calendar in general.

Many thanks for your patience and hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day.

Website Outage and Calendar Troubles

Hi Everyone,

The website went down yesterday and I’m still trying to find the exact cause of it. I was able to bring it back up right away, but unfortunately it was by disabling the school calendar. I’m still actively trying to solve the problem but I know how important the calendar is.

I’ve installed an alternative calendar in the mean time but the events have not yet been added to this new calendar. They will be soon. To access the new calendar, you will need to hover over Students and Families menu and then click on Calendar. A front page link will be coming soon.

Apologies for the troubles and inconveniences that this may have caused and I’ll be working on it until it gets resolved.

Have a great day everyone.

Regards,
Brian

Site Updates Underway

Hi Everyone,

I will be updating the core of the website in the next couple of weeks/months. This is to get the website ready for it’s next major redesign. The updates will be very slow, because I would like to make sure that everything is working normally at the same time as I’m performing updates.

Because of how busy and heavy the SMSE website has become, a simple update would be possible. I will be working on the site on hours where the site would not be so busy. However, you may still see some minor bugs and I may break something accidentally. My apologies on those situations. I appreciate your patience while we build a better and more fluid website.

For concerns, ideas and comments though, please don’t hesitate to email us.

Post Subscription Update

Hi Again,

Just me testing out an option for subscribing on to a post on the Site Updates page.

At the same time I would like to inform everyone that if you do see the subscribe form, it is very important to choose your category on the drop down menu.

There are a few categories on there that will not work and is only used for internal site purposes. For example, Development Data and Uncategorized will probably not send you notifications if you subscribe to them. Furthermore, it might send you notifications that you may not even want to subscribe to. Also please try not to subscribe to All Categories unless you really need to, as it can easily fill your inbox. 🙂

Again, to receive the proper news from your teacher or class subject. Please choose the correct category when subscribing.

For any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to email .

News Subscriptions are Here

Hi everyone, your friendly neighborhood web admin here.

Just wanted to update you on one of the most requested feature on the St. Mary School’s website…post/news subscription. I’m actively working on the feature to make it more straightforward and easy to use for all our readers and teachers. At the same time though, I would like to make the process really easy for our teachers to implement and also easy to manage for our web admins.

With that said, this may take some time to perfect and there will be quirks while it is being worked on. At any case, I will update everyone here should some important development happens.

I hope everyone is is looking forward to it. And if there are any comments or concerns about the website, please don’t hesitate to contact me through email or if you see me during the morning.

Have a nice and wonderful day, everyone.

-Brian
