 Dear Parents,

Thanks to all of you for coming to our Back to School Night on Thursday. If you were not able to attend please let me know if you have any questions about anything in the packets that I gave out. I really enjoyed meeting you all and I look forward to a great year!   Your kids are great!

I’d like to let you know about a few things coming up this week.

Spelling Words and Homework:

I am sending home a spelling list in the folders with homework requirements. Most people leave the list in the folders so the children can practice   each night. As stated on the list, the children will have 15 words and 2 sentences this week. They are to write them two times each every night this week and on Thursday night they should practice for a test on Friday morning. We will use this format until further notice.

Words:     am   man   fan   and   play   at   dad   bat   be   with   sad   cat   pal   help   you

Sentences:     1. The man is sad.                 2. I can play with you.

Math:

I will give occasional HW in math but we focus on the spelling for homework right now. This week we are learning how to print the numbers carefully, read the number words to twelve and to compare the numbers and sets.

Religion:

Prayers, Sign of the Cross and the Blessed Trinity will be discussed.  We will read the story of Adam and Eve from our children’s bibles. We will also discuss and make crosses to display the SLE’s: our Student Learning Expectations here at Saint Mary.

We will discuss the story of Our Lady of Lourdes in preparation for the arrival of her statue on Tuesday.

Reading/Language Arts:

I will be giving early literacy screenings to determine knowledge in reading.

Our lesson in reading is called “What Is a Pal?” . We will focus on short a words and how to decode them. We will talk about and identify what a noun is.  We will read the anchor story and a poem and work on comprehension of what we have read.
