First Grade News- October 21-25, 2013

Hi Parents,

SPELLING WORDS:  up   run   but   gum   bus   nut   pup   tub   fun   sun   saw   by   have   five   pink   SENTENCES: I saw the pup run up the hill.    I have fun in the tub.

Spelling homework this week will include illustrating the words and also writing four  sentences using some of the spelling words.

FLASH CARDS for MATH:  I was at the Lakeshore teacher supply store in San Marcos and purchased two sets of flash cards for addition and subtraction facts for 0-12. They were made by a company called Trend and they were $2.99 each. If you do not have any flash cards I recommend these. I would like the children to practice with these for a few minutes each night until they have memorized them. It will make their “math life” a lot easier. Thanks for your help with this at home.  I would eventually like to give timed math tests and this will really help them.

RED RIBBON WEEK: Mrs. Freitas has a great week planned for us as we talk about taking care of ourselves and others and become “Cool Christians”. Please check out the newsletter to see the activities that she has planned for us.

Parent volunter needed: We are in need of a parent to share the job of taking the children to the library and helping out there during their Library period on Wednesdays from 11:20 to 12:10. This person would alternate with Mrs. Perez and begin next week, October 30th. If you can help us please email me and let me know. Thanks!

We will be starting Accelerated Reader in class this week and I will be sending a paper home with an explanation and password so you can see how your child is doing.

Have a great week and God Bless.

Mrs. Eileen Bonica
