Religion: Lent

This week students will be learning about Lent.

Language Arts:  The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

This week we will begin week 4 of our novel study. Students will:

  • examine the story elements associated with fiction texts.
  • identify different types of figurative language.
  • compare and contrast character traits.

Chapters 17-20

Week 5 Vocabulary: relentless, modify, resentment, intent

Math Groups A and B: Module 5 Fraction Equivalence, Ordering, and Operations

Topic D: Fraction Addition and Subtraction

Students will:

  • Add and subtract more than two fractions.
  • Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions.
  • Use visual models to add two fractions with related units using the denominators 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12.

Math Group C:  Module 5 Fraction Equivalence, Ordering, and Operations

Topic D: Fraction Addition and Subtraction

Students will:

  • Use visual models to add two fractions with related units using the denominators 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12.

We will continue with multiplication and division timed tests. Please practice your math facts at home every night. Click here for a great practice sheet! To see the testing order, please refer to the recording chart in your child’s planner.

Social Studies: Module 3 Lesson 5

The Future of California is in Your Hands: Siempre Adelante: A New California

Students will:

  • Understand that life mottos can help us focus on our goals
  • Explain Saint Junipero Serra’s motto Siempre Adelante and how it shaped his motivations as a missionary and his missionary work
  • Create a motto showing a vision of the ideal future California

Science: We will be working this week on building our inventions for the Engineering Fair.

Rock Patterns

Students will:

  • Identify evidence from patterns in rock formations and fossils in rock layers to support an explanation for changes in a landscape over time.

3/27 Wednesday: 8am Mass (formal uniform required), Math Group C Mid Module Assessment

3/28 Thursday: TSG Quiz and Spelling Test

3/29 Friday: No School
