Mrs. Montijo’s Class Update Week of 12/17/2018

Math 5:  Students should be preparing for the next assessment which will be:

Tuesday, December 18.  The test will cover multi-digit multiplication using the standard algorithm and area models.  Students should also be prepared to use estimation to show the reasonableness of their answers.

Math 6:  Students will be assessed on percent problems as well as percent, decimal, fraction equivalents on Tuesday, December 18.  If your student needs extra help, I am available every morning between 7:00 and 8:00.  The student should confirm with me in advance if possible in order to avoid conflicts.

If your student has not yet mastered the multiplication facts, daily work on Quicktables in ALEKS is necessary. Success in math is hindered without easy recall of these facts.

Religion 5/6:

I was so proud of our 6th graders in their performances in The Apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  The 5th graders also did a wonderful job as the choir for this event.  A special thanks to all the parents that helped with costumes and preparing the readers.  This was truly a team effort and your help was greatly appreciated. I also want to thank our music teacher, Mr. Spurgiesz, and Miss Blaze for their help in preparing the students for this performance.

Reconciliation: December 19.  This is a good opportunity for you to discuss the importance of a good examination of conscience prior to their participation.

In recognition of Advent, we have been learning about the tradition of the Jesse Tree which tells the story of God’s plan for our salvation through its ornaments depicting important characters in the story from God’s first creation until the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ.  Students should continue to check Google Classroom for their assignments and ensure they are completing them. Jesse Tree Symbols is due Tuesday, December 18.

Christmas  Message from Mrs. Montijo:

As we enter this final week before Christmas break, I want to say how truly blessed I feel to be working with your children at St. Mary School.  I firmly believe that your children are precious gifts from God. It is an honor and privilege to partner with you in helping them realize this undeniable fact.  May they all continue to grow, develop and mature as God desires. I am most appreciative of the support you give me and the other teachers at St. Mary School and wish you all a blessed and Merry Christmas!
