Ms. Egan’s Newsletter 9/15

Hello Middle School Families!

It’s hard to believe we’ve already been in school for almost a month!

As a reminder, the 8th grade Mass is THIS SUNDAY!! Please see the email sent from me earlier this week and a second email from Mrs. Montijo on Tuesday regarding the specifics. All 8th graders are expected to attend and they must be in their Mass uniform.

This past week, all grades did their first STAR reading test of the year. Please note that this first test is used as a diagnostic test that I use to track growth throughout the year and to identify each student’s individual needs. 6th-8th graders also received their laptops! Please be sure to remind your child of proper and safe technology use at home. Students should also be charging their laptops each night so they are ready to go in the morning. 5th graders also received their laptops. They will begin going home shortly.

This coming week, all grades will get further into their Responsibility Requires Action novel studies. In addition, 5th and 6th graders will delve into their first piece of formal writing of the year – a personal narrative. 7th and 8th graders will continue shorter Outsiders inspired writing prompts that will eventually feed into their first piece of formal writing.

Class Dojo is up and running, so if you are already connected, be sure to connect to your student’s language arts class too.
