Ms. Egan’s Weekly Update – 10/7

Happy October Middle School Families!

Congratulations to our students of the month, Ardy Burnette in 7th grade and Aaron Servin in 8th grade!

The Fall Fiesta is this Sunday! The 7th grade mass is at 10:30am, and the performance is at 12. All students must attend the performance, and all 7th graders must attend the mass. Attendance is mandatory and will be part of each middle schooler’s religion grade, but please email me if your child will not be attending due to family reasons.  We are asking that 7th graders arrive to mass early at 10:00 in order to get situated and pass out pamphlets. Not all 7th graders are doing readings, but  those who are not in choir will sit together in the pews next to the choir. All readings will already be on the podium.

I will not be at the mass or Fiesta due to a prior family commitment, so Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Johnston, and Ms. Silady will be there to help with the mass. When 7th graders arrive at the mass, please have them check with Mrs. Martinez for where to go. Mrs. Martinez will be checking students in and out of the Fiesta as well.

In class, we will be wrapping up our Responsibility Requires Action novel study unit in all Language Arts classes, and beginning a narrative writing assignment. At the end of the upcoming week, we will also begin learning about research-based writing for the science fair. There will be a unit test for both Ancient Civilizations and United States History at the end of next week.

We launched ALEKS and LEXIA this week with Mr. Molina. Students also now have their laptops! I am very excited to start using them for in-class activities and writing!

The sign up deadline for the DC trip has been extended to October 12th, so there is still time to sign up! Flyers went out to students who wanted them this week, but I will be happy to send digital copies to anyone who is still interested.

The Bates Nut Farm field trip is this coming Thursday, 10/12. If your child did not turn in his/her permission slip, please make sure it gets to school to be turned in on Tuesday.

Progress Reports were also ready this week. Please email me if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to set up a meeting to discuss your child’s grade.

The 6th-8th grade Halloween Dance is coming up on Friday, October 27th, from 6-9pm. More information will come.

Please note there is no school this Monday, October 9th.
