Hi Parents and Students,

I would like to say WELCOME to our new student, Vivianne Parks who will be joining our class on Monday, December 3 ! Vivianne and her family have moved to Escondido from Jupiter, Florida.

ACCELERATED READER: On Friday I sent home a form with your child’s password and the directions for going on the AR site and checking your child’s quiz scores. We have just started taking tests but this will increase. Accelerated Reader is a program that will enhance and improve reading comprehension. It is used at SMS in Grades 1-8th grade. Either I read them a book or they read a story and then they take a comprehension test on the story either by using headphones or reading the questions themselves. The children will take a test known as the STAR test that will help to determine their reading level and the best books for them to be reading. They have been very enthusiastic about choosing books and taking tests.

 

DECEMBER UNIT:  Holidays Around the World-    We will be learning about our various holiday customs and where they came from. We will be talking about what countries  our  own relatives came from . For our Christmas party I would like to have an “International Feast” with a little treat from each family’s heritage. I will send more info on this a bit later.

 

HOLIDAY CONCERT -CHRISTMAS PAGEANT–  Thursday December 20 at 10:30    The Kindergarten and the First Graders are angels in the Pageant. We have the angel costumes here at school. All of the children in the school are told to wear their “party clothes” but in our case the clothes must be able to be under a costume so it ill be comfortable for the children. The Pageant is held in the church and parents are invited to attend. That is a minimum day for the school and children will be dismissed from the classroom right after the program.

BAKE SALE-Wednesday, Dec. 5th provided by the 7th grade

Saturday-December 8- ESCONDIDO CHRISTMAS PARADE    St. Mary School will have a float in the parade.

BARNES AND NOBLE FUND RAISER- Saturday, December 8th with a portion of the revenue going to Saint Mary School. The choir will sing at  2:00 inside B&N .

DADDY-DAUGHTER DANCE-  Friday December 14th  Please check the website for further information on this.
