Third Grade Weekly Update


It’s hard to believe we’ve arrived at the end of September already!  The third graders have been hard at work, and they continue to impress me with their excitement for school.  This week, we will discuss the importance of our school community, and the students will be creating posters for St. Mary’s Schoolwide Learning Expectations (SLEs).  If you’d like to learn more about the SLEs, please visit:  I hope to be able to share the finished product with you all very soon!

What we will be covering this week:

  • Religion: Jesus and His Followers
  • Math: Counting and using money
  • Reading: Compare/contrast; Making predictions
  • Language Arts: Common and proper nouns
  • Spelling/Phonics: Long o vowel patterns (o, oa, ow)
  • Social Studies: Our communities review and assessment
  • Science: Plants review and assessment

  • Science Chapter 1A Test on Wednesday
  • Social Studies Chapter 1 Test on Thursday
  • Spelling #1.4 Test on Friday
  • Journeys Reading/Language Arts Test #1.4 on Friday

  • Wednesday, 9/28: Mass at 8am (wear formal uniform)
  • Friday 9/30: Bake Sale; Progress Reports
  • Tuesday, 10/4: St. Francis Feast Day; Blessing of the Animals at 3:30pm
  • Thursday, 10/5 and Friday, 10/6: Early dismissal at 12pm
  • Saturday, 10/8: 3:30pm school performance and Octoberfest
