A look at our week…

Religion:  In Chapter 24, the students learned about the Sacrament of Matrimony and the promise of faithfulness and love made by the man and woman.  In this chapter, the students will learn about the Sacrament of Holy Orders in which the ordained make a promise of service for the People of God.

4th Grade Language Arts:  All this week we explored “How do inventions change the way we do things?” The science fiction story “The Fun They Had” from Isaac Asimov: The Complete Stories gave us an interesting perspective on our own time, as students from the future look back at how we live. The informational text Toys!, tells the history of the invention of wind-up toys.

  • Vocabulary Strategy: Greek and Latin word parts (therm, photo, meter, fac)
  • Comprehension Skill: Story structure— examine details about characters, setting, and plot
  • Comprehension Strategy: Visualize— use text details to form pictures in your mind of what you are reading
  • Don’t forget our class has a Quizlet account with the Vocabulary and Spelling words for both 4th and 5th grade.
  • Spelling:  See Focus Wall (Homework assignment can be found here.) Please note: The challenge words are included in our weekly Spelling tests and must be included in the homework.

5th Grade Language Arts:  During the westward expansion, life was exciting and it was dangerous! This week, we explored the question, “How did explorers help America become the country it is today?” In the narrative nonfiction selection, Lewis and Clark, Lewis and Clark lead the Corps of Discovery westward toward the Pacific coast. Finally, students enjoyed reading A Surprise Reunion, a play about the meeting between Chief Cameahwaite of the Shoshone tribe and Lewis and Clark.

Social Studies:  Chapter 8 The War for Independence

State Report Guidelines went home last week.  Please note the new due date is Thursday, June 9th for both the essay and the float!

Science:  Chapter 3A Plants and their Adaptations- Lessons 1 and 2/Chapter 4A Plant Processes Lessons 1 and 2.  The test for these chapters and sections will be on Wednesday, June 1st.  The study guides can be found in your child’s Science Notebook.

Thursday 6/9:  Team Day, State Float and Reports due

Wednesday 6/15:  8am Mass, 12noon Dismissal, 3pm 8th Graduation

Friday 6/17: 8am End of the Year Mass, 10am Dismissal, No AM/PM Program
