Announcements:
Star 360: On Monday and Tuesday of next week, our class will be taking the STAR 360 tests for Reading and Math. Here are some ways you can help your child do his/her best on this test:
The Night Before the Test:
- Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before the test.
- Plan ahead to avoid problems before the test so he/she doesn’t go to bed upset.
- Be encouraging — let your child know you think he/she will do well on the test.
The Morning of the Test:
- Have your child get up early enough to avoid hurrying.
- Make sure your child has a good breakfast on the morning of the test.
- Be positive when you send your child to school.

A look at our week…
Religion: In Chapter 22, the students learned about the theological virtues of faith, hope, and love, and the Beatitudes. They also learned that the saints were models of a life of virtue. In this chapter, the students will learn that Jesus calls us to be His disciples.
4th Language Arts: This week, we asked the question “How can animal behavior be like human behavior?” In the narrative nonfiction selection Owen & Mzee, we learned how environmental changes led to an unusual bond between two very different animals. We also read the informational text Sea Sanctuary, about what we are doing to protect endangered underwater habitats.

5th Language Arts: “Why would a pioneer traveler record events in a journal?” was answered by students after they read this week’s main selection. Rachel’s Journal: The Story of a Pioneer Girl is a historical fiction story. In her journal, Rachel recounts the challenges of daily life on the Oregon Trail. Our class also studied a timeline focusing on African American pioneers in the informational text Westward to Freedom.

Social Studies: We had a fun field trip to Riley’s Farm last week. Many thanks to Mrs. Carey, Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Jauregui, and Mr. Moss for driving and chaperoning our group. The students learned a lot about the Revolutionary War and Colonial time period. As we finish Chapter 7 on the conflicts with Britain, the French and Indian War, and causes of the American Revolution, we will have a test on Tuesday of next week. Please use pgs 258-259 in the text as a study guide for this assessment.
