Announcements:

Field Trip:  We are going to Riley’s Farm on Thursday, May 12th.  We will meet in Room 7 at 8am.  Students need to pack a disposable lunch.  Please do not send lunch boxes, plastic containers, etc.  Students must wear a St. Mary shirt (polo, team shirt, or PE shirt) with jeans and P.E. shoes.  Please bring a St. Mary sweater/sweatshirt/jacket in case it is cold.  We will return to school between 3:15 and 3:30pm.

Bake Sale:  4th/5th Grade Bake Sale is Wednesday, May 18th.  Please go to www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0A44AAA92FA6FA7-4thand1 .  There is a list of items needed and time slots available for volunteers.  Thank you!

A look at our week…

Religion:  We are continuing with our Virtue Projects.  These will be due on Friday, May 13th.

4th Grade Language Arts:  This week we asked the question “How do forests and trees show change?” In our informational text The Ever-Living Tree, we compared the growth of a tree to events taking place throughout the world. We’ll also read Towering Trees, a poetry selection about the redwoods.

5th Grade Language Arts:  This week students explored the question “What kinds of lessons were learned by people who lived in the Old West?” In our main selection, the informational text Vaqueros: America’s First Cowboys, author George Ancona captures the history and traditions of the original cowboys of Spanish Mexico. Later, our class read Rhyme on the Range, poetry written by cowboys.

5th Grade Tiger Lily Group:  Final Exam

Social Studies:  As we finished Chapter 6 on the Middle and Southern Colonies, we started working on a brochure project.   In this project, students are making brochures describing the economic, social, religious, and political attractions in each of the 13 colonies.  These brochures are due on Friday, May 13th.
