A look at our week…

Religion:  This week we finished Chapter 19 on Mary the Mother of God.  Next week we will work on Chapter 21.  In this chapter students will learn that the Easter Triduum is our greatest celebration of the Paschal Mystery.

4th Grade Language Arts:  “Why is farming important?” That’s the question we explored this week. In the biographical selection Harvesting Hope: The Story of Cesar Chavez, we learned about the man who brought the plight of migrant farm workers to national attention. Last week’s informational text, The Edible Schoolyard, told students how to become community leaders by creating a school garden.

Next Week:  We will be completing a full grammar review.  We will not begin a new Journeys lesson.  There will be no Spelling.

5th Grade Language Arts:  Reading last week’s selections helped students answer “Why is it important to be aware of your community’s needs?” We read a realistic fiction story, Darnell Rock Reporting. Darnell, a reporter for his school newspaper, stirs up controversy with an editorial proposing to use an empty lot as a garden for the homeless instead of a teachers’ parking lot. Students also read Volunteer!, a persuasive text that encourages readers to support community projects by volunteering.

Next Week:  We will be ACRE testing.  There will not be a new Journeys lesson.  There will be no Spelling.
