A look at our week…

Religion:  Next Thursday at 9am, the 5th grade class will be leading Stations of the Cross in the Church.  All are welcome to attend!  We will not be starting a new chapter in our Religion text, instead we will be focusing on the stations.  On Friday of next week, there will be a quiz on the Stations of the Cross.

4th Grade Language Arts:

This week’s…

  • Target Vocabulary: escorted, swelled, relied, reputation, worthy, churning, situation, deserve, defended, satisfied
  • Vocabulary Strategy: Figurative language
  • Comprehension Skill: Compare and contrast—examine how details or ideas are alike and different
  • Comprehension Strategy: Monitor/ clarify—identify passages of text that are confusing and use reading techniques to understand them
  • Writing Focus: Narrative writing— descriptive paragraph
  • Spelling:  See Focus Wall (Homework assignment can be found here.)

  • Comprehension Skill: Author’s purpose—use text details to figure out the author’s viewpoint and reasons for writing
  • Comprehension Strategy: Monitor/ clarify—as you read, notice what isn’t making sense and find ways to figure out the parts that are confusing
  • Writing Focus: Narrative writing— friendly letter

4th Grade Math:

Students will…

  • evaluate numerical expressions using the order of operations
  • find the mean of a set of numbers
  • finish Movie Theater division project
  • review Chapter 5 concepts

5th Grade Math:

Students will…

  • explore multiplying a fraction by a fraction
  • multiply a fraction and a whole number
  • multiply fractions using the greatest common factor
  • express a mixed number as a fraction greater than one

5th Grade Accelerated Math:  Statistics and Probability

Social Studies:  We will continue with Chapter 4 on European Settlements.  Students will describe the aims and accomplishments of English, French, and Dutch explorers.  We will also understand the significance of the defeat of the Spanish Armada.

Science:  Unit B Chapter 5 The Solar System

Tuesday 2/23: Field Trip 9am-12noon, Students must wear Mass attire uniform

Wednesday 2/24:  8am Mass, 2:30pm Dismissal

Friday 2/26: L.A./Spelling 3.16 Test, Religion Stations of the Cross Quiz

Wednesday 3/2: 8am Mass, Progress Reports, 2:30pm Dismissal

Thursday 3/3: 4th Grade Stations of the Cross at 9am in the Church

Friday 3/4: 12noon Dismissal
