First Grade News- Feb.9, 2016

Hi Parents,

Thanks to all who helped, came to, donated to and in any way were part of the Gala. It was so much fun and our tablescape was beautiful! Thanks to Marisol Quintero for that. Thank you for all the support that you have shown to our school this year!

You have received the list of 20 number words for spelling this week. Wednesday night homework is to write a “juicy” sentence for words #1-10.  Tomorrow the children will be drawing sets of tens and ones for each of the numbers. I will send the paper home and give you an example of what has to be done. The children will do a practice one in school.  Weekly test will be on Friday as usual.

Words: eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen,

number, ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety, one-hundred.

Reading: we will complete the lesson on seasons.  We will be taking the STAR tests on Early Literacy and Math this week.

We will be doing activities about Chinese New Year, the year of the monkey. The children are looking forward to cooking a Chinese meal of Orange Chicken and rice and vegetables. We will make up some of our own fortunes to put into fortune cookies.

Children are beginning to bring in their valentines to be put inside our valentine holders. We will exchange them on Friday in the afternoon. If anyone would like to send in some cookies please let me know.

Stations of the Cross with school families will begin on Thursday.

Monday is Presidents Day and school  will not be in session.

Today is Ash Wednesday and we spent  time talking about what the ashes mean, what Lent means and what we can offer to Jesus as a sacrifice for all that he has done for us. Each child told what they would try to give up for the duration of Lent so let’s see what happens!

ZOO TRIP information will come home on Friday with the permission slip. Please return all papers as soon as possible so I can make all of the arrangements. Thanks so much!

Remember that the enrollment process for next year has begun.
