Looking ahead:

There is no school on Monday, January 18th in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.  We will have a special MLK assembly on Tuesday, January 19th at 8:40am led by our class.  You are all welcome to attend!

Open House is on Sunday, January 24th 10am-1pm.  This is a perfect opportunity to bring your family and friends to see our classroom and check out the other classrooms.  Students who come in their Mass attire uniform will receive a free dress coupon.

Our Gala is coming up on February 6th!  Our room parents, Mrs. Mansour and Mrs. Plowy, sent an email this week asking for donations for our 4th and 5th grade basket/tablescape.  Please look for that email.  You are welcome to start sending items in to the classroom.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

What we are learning:

Religion:  Chapter 15 We Turn to God

  • Students will hear Jesus’ call to conversion and reconciliation to God and the Church through the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation.

4th Language Arts

  • Target Vocabulary: trembles, wreckage, slab, possessions, tenement, crushing, rubble, debris, timbers, constructed
  • Vocabulary Strategy: Synonyms
  • Comprehension Skill: Sequence of events—understanding the order in which events in a story take place
  • Comprehension Strategy: Visualize— forming pictures in your mind from what you read

5th Grade Language Arts

4th Grade Math:  Chapter 5 Divide by One Digit

  • Students will study the meanings and rules of division and investigate patterns, missing numbers and divisibility.

5th Grade Math: Chapter 5 Fractions

  • Students will learn to add or subtract fractions with renaming.

Science:  Chapter 4 Earth and the Moon

  • Students will recognize the time-and-space relationships of the sun-Earth-moon system.
  • Students will create a model of the simultaneous orbits of the moon around Earth and the Earth around the sun.
